Number of the Month – GA-400 Crossings

Around the first of the month I publish the number of the month, a random bit of local trivia.

The number of roads that cross GA-400 in the city of Alpharetta.

I think this is a fact that significantly shapes Alpharetta. Roswell only has two crossings (effectively just Holcomb Bridge Road). This creates an east versus west divide in their city that separates their citizens, politically and in other ways. I don’t see such a geographic divide here in Alpharetta, something which creates a more cohesive and congruent community.

I’m only coming up with 7…are you counting McGinnis Ferry?

Yeah, I threw McGinnis Ferry in there.

lol…guess I’ll meet you halfway on that one…to the West of GA 400 it’s borded by Milton and Forsyth County, and to the East it’s Alpharetta and Forsyth

I do think there is a big difference between the east and west “cultures.” I actually see three broad cultures: Kimball Bridge, Windward, and east of 400.

Sorry, I meant WEST of 400.

I believe a big unifying factor is that Webb Bridge doesn’t have an exit from 400. That makes it easy for people to move from one side of 400 to the other. If they ever change that, it’s going to feel much less like one city.

You missed the road going under 400 at the river. I think it is called Riverside. I use it all the time. I avoid crossings with access ramps as much as I can. If there are ramps, it’s almost as much of a disconnect as no over/underpass at all due to all the extra traffic.

Karen, yes I was counting Riverside as the second one in Roswell. Here’s my list. Did I miss any?

    Holcomb Bridge

    McGinnis Ferry
    Webb Bridge
    Old Milton
    Kimball Bridge
    Haynes Bridge
    Encore Pwky
